THE DIVERS is Arabella Currie’s first collection of poetry. THE DIVERS showcases poems from across Arabella’s career, drawing on a wide range of poetic, literary, and academic influences. Arabella’s background in Classics is interwoven through her poems, both explicitly in her translation ‘exercises’, and implicitly in her choice of image and metre. Far from repel a wide readership, however, this lends the poems a timelessness that draws the ancient world onto the contemporary political stage.
Arabella Currie lives and studies in Oxford and is currently in the final stages of completing a Doctorate in Classical Languages and Literature, looking in particular at the impact of ancient mythology upon the Irish literary revival. Arabella’s poetic ability was recognised from an early age, winning the Foyle Young Poet of the Year Award in 2007 for her poem, ‘My Hands’, followed by the University of Oxford’s prestigious Newdigate Prize in 2010 for ‘Allotment’.
